We had our annual End-of-Summer BBQ on Saturday and I had promised myself that the stairs would be done for the party. I had to put in a few late nights, but I kept my promise! (Well, actually, I’m about 90% done. There’s still a bit of finish work to do, but I’m celebrating being done for now.)
Just as a reminder, here’s how they looked a month ago:
These pictures really don’t show how grody the carpet was, so you’ll have to take my word for it: yuck!
And here’s how they look now:
So. Much. Better!
At some point, I plan to paint the handrail black too. THEN, I’d like to paint the walls the same blue as the stairs in one of the houses in Modern Family (I drool over them every time I watch that show!) I would love to figure out what color it is, but this is the best picture I can find of it:
*drool*
While I’m at it, I’d love to add some moulding to the wall. I love Sandra’s at Sawdust and Paper Scraps:
But for now, I’m just gonna sit back and enjoy the view:

ReplyDeleteWowsers! LOVE it. I'm wanting to do this with our nasty carpeted stairway. You'll have to do a tutorial on the products you used :)
ReplyDeleteSo glad you could Mi4M...
Now that is amazing how much that opened up the space. It looks beautiful! I like the idea of putting up molding and painting the handrail black, but really, it is just beautiful as it is. Awesome job!
ReplyDeleteBeautiful job. (love your inspiration, too!)
ReplyDeleteWhat a beautiful transformation! That was a lot of hard work, and you did a great job.
ReplyDeleteThey are absolutely gorgeous! I keep seeing people doing this and I'm dying to try it one day in my own house. The impact is amazing!
ReplyDeleteThese are beautiful! Can you tell us what kind of paint you used on the stairs? (ie, gloss, semi- gloss, porch, regular, brand, etc?) I've wanted to do this, but have NO clue what to use! Again, they look awesome!
ReplyDeleteI'm showing this to my mom. She has carpeted steps and would love to do something like this. Great job, well worth the effort!
ReplyDeleteAbsolutely stunning! I would LOVE to do this in my house TODAY!
ReplyDeleteWhat a wonderful change!

I found you on BNOTP. Love your staircase.... I am actually getting ready to do this to my stair way....actually, I am paying someone else to do it...haha...I'm sure I could do it cheaper, but I hired someone who knows what they are doing! haha! Love the way it looks, and I hope mine looks half this good!!!
ReplyDeleteMy stairs look like your before photo and I've been wanting to do the same thing.. but I just keep looking at it.. well, your photos gave me the push I needed.. What a wonderful job you did and is the dark color black? I love it!

GORGEOUS! I am just loving painted stairs. I totally want to YANK all our carpet out, but I'm still trying to convince hubby.
ReplyDeleteYesterday I decided to tear up the heinous tile that adorns my steps...not really knowing what I was going to do next I went at it with a screwdriver (and hurt myself in the process). Your steps are beautiful and a great inspiration to me.
ReplyDeleteyour steps are amazing. i was wondering what to do with the top landing. but i see in your pic's you just left your carpet up there. you did a great job. i have been wanting to do mine for a while now but it will have to wait until i get hubby on the bandwaggon. thanks for sharing! great job!
ReplyDeleteThose look wonderful!! Now, I've got to go back and read how you did it. We're wanting to remove carpet from our stairs and aren't sure how to go about it. By husband says the we'll have to replace the tops with wood. Who knows??
ReplyDeleteThanks for sharing!

I have to hide the fact that I'm looking at this right now! I'm right in the middle of copying Paperscraps and Sawdust's Board and Batten in my entry way and our house is a wreck!! If my husband saw me looking at this he would have a nervous breakdown!!
ReplyDeleteBeautiful! I love the contrast of white and dark wood! It looks great!
ReplyDeleteI'd love it if you checked out my blog for a deal for Overstock.com! And, I'd also love it if you joined my link party on Friday! alittleknickknack.blogspot.com

the stairs are perfect. That is my fall/winter project...so nervous, but it is time to put on my big girl pants and just do it! That blue is gorgeous on the Modern Family walls...I have been eyeing the wall colors in the Holden's kitchen on Army Wives (my cabinets are the same color) but I can't figure out what the color is...I wish they would have a tell all decorating site for tv shows...
ReplyDeleteThe stairs look fantastic with the dark treads. Congrats this project completed to this point. Not a small feat to be sure!

Wow, it looks fantastic! I agree that the blue paint would look gorgeous next to the black and white stairway. I'm looking forward to seeing the rails painted black, by the way. Can't wait! :)

How did the dark treads hold up over time? Any pets scuff them up? We've got a 50Lb dog and I'm afraid they won't last as long with her running up and down them.
